Dating for highly intelligent people
Gentlemen might say they prefer brains to blondes, but it seems that when faced with a romantic evening of oysters with a woman who might have far-superior brain power, many would rather pass to spend it with someone with far less mental wattage. For a new study, psychologists at the University of Buffalo, California Lutheran University and University of Texas questioned 105 men with a series of experiments and discovered that smart women made them feel less masculine. – that even though most men like the idea of dating an intelligent woman, put them in front of one and that attraction suddenly withers. In theory, men may like the idea of a partner with a successful career; perhaps it plays to their inner George Clooney. If you’re an intelligent woman and you have the documents to prove it, good for you but being smart about men isn’t the same as being book smart. What every smart person should know is being charismatic is just as important as being intelligent. So I find that some intelligent women make the following mistakes when it comes to attracting and interacting with men.Jennifer Wright at The recently asked CNBC financial reporter John Carney, and nine other "smart men," why so many studies indicate that men prefer dating women who are less intelligent than they are.Carney chalked the phenomenon up to today's "knowledge economy." Less intelligent women have more leisure time because they aren't financially rewarded for staying in school or working long hours, Carney reasoned, and they seek out a smart partner as a means of "economic advancement." As Carney put it, "dumb chicks have both greater opportunities and greater incentives to try harder to date smart men than smart women do." Carney says a hardworking hedge funder who Wright interviewed provided a similar explanation, asserting that successful men (like him, presumably) date less successful women not because they want "women to be dumb" but rather because they want "someone who prioritizes their life in a way that’s compatible with how you prioritize yours." The hedge funder, for example, dates a kindergarten teacher, and a kindergarten teacher "has a more flexible schedule, she’ll be able accommodate me," he explains.
No man goes out to a bar, to a nightclub, to a strip club for that matter to meet an intelligent woman. Some might say that I’m one of those women who put off men with my achievements, of which I’m really proud: I’ve published books on the theory of consciousness and the future of the brain.I’ve authored some 200 research papers on Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s disease and novel mechanisms underlying brain function.“He knew what I did for a living, because I listed it on my profile. But he made a comment about something in my field, and I responded with some information from a research paper I had just published,” she told me.
